I don't think I could walk 1 mile today, never mind 20! Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow.
It is a public holiday here in honour of St Rocque, so many shops and tourist attractions are closed or operating very reduced hours.
It is slightly annoying as I have to visit the tourist office between 11 and 2, attend the pilgrim mass in the Cathedral at 12, ans can only visit the Pilgrim Museum between 10.30 and 13.30 today. None if this would be a problem if I could move fast , but today I can't!
It is a beautiful clear and sunny day in,Santiago and I got up early to take some photos. I will try to send some to the blog, later.
The high point of the day will be speaking to my husband in the square outside the Cathedral. Andrew will connect to the webcam that sees the square, and if I wave my hat while we are talking I hope he will be able to see me! It will be fun to try anyway. He us going to phone me at 7 p.m.,Spanish time.
South America is really big and I have never been there. I am leaving the safety of my teaching job to explore 5 spanish-speaking countries and to walk in the footsteps of Charles Darwin on the Galapagos Islands. I am hoping that neither the perilous altitudes of Ecuador, the ravenous midges in the Peruvian rainforest or the crazy Bolivian bus drivers will kill me... I will doubtless meet other people on the edge of sanity who feel the need to wander away from safety. I hope we can be friends.
