This is a picture of my room in the Albergue at Silleda. As you can see it is large and there are many supermarkets nearby so I have provisions for the long slog to S de C tomorrow. The Spanish cyclist is in the room next door and we are having supper together tonight. He is fit and charming but young enough to be my son so don't be jealous Andrew!
But you can envy the food - we are promised chorizo, eggs and patatas cooked in Galician style with olive oil and maybe tomatoes or paprika. I can't wait!
I am loving this Wi-Fi access and very excited about arriving in S de C tomorrow. Wish me luck as I am really pushing myself with these long distances. I will be leaving at 5.30 again and can't wait for a lie-in!
Am I doing this Camino all wrong? It has to be your own walk, and mine is fast. I have overtaken every walker I have met. I am not boasting because it is not healthy in some ways to be so driven, but it is how I am.
Any thoughts on how to get into a slower gear are welcome. I would like to change because seizing the day is all very well but I would like to savour them too, if you know what I mean.
South America is really big and I have never been there. I am leaving the safety of my teaching job to explore 5 spanish-speaking countries and to walk in the footsteps of Charles Darwin on the Galapagos Islands. I am hoping that neither the perilous altitudes of Ecuador, the ravenous midges in the Peruvian rainforest or the crazy Bolivian bus drivers will kill me... I will doubtless meet other people on the edge of sanity who feel the need to wander away from safety. I hope we can be friends.
