I got to Olveira at about 11.15 ans am enjoying my second coffee con leche, a banana, and a croissant at the 'Bar Alberguie'. There is a nice little shop here that sells fruit, snacks, and food for cooking a healthy supper with.
I have heard good reports of the brand new albergue at Dumbria, which is 12 km from here, so will press on and hope it is quiet.
The walk today gas been very well signed, often along small roads, and through open countryside. The common sights are corn, eucalyptus trees, windmills, dogs, and flowers. The flies are still a torment which is a shame...
It is worth noting that the camino only directly passed the first cafe at Ponte de Umbria at about 10.45, and a couple from Vilaserio had walked all the way there without a coffee. Cafe casa Pepe was 40 m from the Camino, but they had missed it. Pilgrims beware!
South America is really big and I have never been there. I am leaving the safety of my teaching job to explore 5 spanish-speaking countries and to walk in the footsteps of Charles Darwin on the Galapagos Islands. I am hoping that neither the perilous altitudes of Ecuador, the ravenous midges in the Peruvian rainforest or the crazy Bolivian bus drivers will kill me... I will doubtless meet other people on the edge of sanity who feel the need to wander away from safety. I hope we can be friends.
